I recently found out that my office building has a brand new (as in just renovated) gym and I can use it for free. I’ve already submitted paperwork and should have access any day now. I figure this is as good a reason as any to shop for some new workout attire, right?!
There is a tricky bit to this though – “office-appropriate” gear might not be the same as regular workout attire. I mean, being on the treadmill next to a senior VP while wearing a torn up old university tee could be as awkward as doing some ab work next to group of colleagues while wearing the skimpiest hot yoga top. Neither situation is ideal. So let’s look at some gear that’s fun, affordable (all under $100!), and perfect for the office gym. Happy shopping!
SPORTS BRAS, TANKS, AND MORE
Sports bras that are functional and cute are hard to find, but you can’t go wrong with Nike. This strappy version ($34) is chic and simple with light support, but I love the burgundy and blush tones in this full coverage option ($40, size up for a comfier fit). For something a little more high-fashion, this high-neck, racerback, all-white option from ALO ($68) is so fab.
If you’re like me and can’t do sleeves while working out, simple racerback tanks from Athleta ($11) or Target ($15) are the way to go. Another favorite option of mine? The sleeveless shirts from Spiritual Gangster that are incredibly lightweight and soft. Get this traditional logo top ($48) or this adorable “Moon Stars Magic” tank ($42) – love it!
Also, bundling up post-workout is crucial. In this chilly weather, the walk to the car can be brutal and it’s the worst to have to pull on a nice work coat over a hot, sweaty body! Trust me, it’s happened after hot yoga and it’s not a good look. Forever21 has a simple zip-up for only $28 and there’s always a classic Nike option that’s also on sale ($53).
THE BEST WORKOUT PANT
A simple black workout legging is understated and functional, yet endlessly chic – you seriously can’t go wrong. I have a few pairs of the Zella high-waist leggings ($54) and they wear like iron. I also just bought a pair of the Chaturanga tights ($74) from Athleta to try out, but this cropped mesh version is on sale now ($40). These Nike Pro Dri-fit Leggings ($42) are also a great investment.
SNEAKERS
I’m a big fan of the Nike Free RN. My sister and I have about 4 pairs between us because they are comfortable, stylish, and wear really well. Try them in a classic black/white combo ($85). These cute pink Adidas kicks ($80) are unfortunately only available in limited sizes, but these black ones have like glittered gold flecks are are just too cool ($85).
ACCESSORIES
Listening to music during a workout is almost as important as the workout itself! Wireless earbuds are the best choice to not get tangled in cords on the elliptical. These from Nordstrom Rack come in at a very reasonable $15 so maybe buy a couple in case a pair gets lost.
And of course hydration is key. S’well water bottles are everywhere these days so here’s one in a fun millennial pink shade ($35). Tumblers are also a good idea because there’s no need to take a top off, the straw is already waiting for you. This Kate Spade one features gold dots ($18) and this clear option has a cute confetti design ($14). The best option though might be a durable, stainless steel, leak-proof Hydro Flask ($32).
Now, how to carry all that gear to and from the car? To avoid cramming everything into a computer bag, a sleek gym bag is a must have. This simple Everlane nylon weekender is an unexpected option ($78) and this Puma duffel is chic and functional ($60). At a super wallet-friendly price, this Gaiam bag ($25) would work just as well.
