Every now and again, I appreciate when my husband is out with the guys because a cozy night in alone is the perfect opportunity for some relaxation and self-care. For me, it’s all about a long, luxurious shower, some skincare treatments, comfy PJs, delicious snacks, and a great book or show. So here are my must haves to get the most out of a fabulous alone night. Cheers!
SELF-CARE
Washing my hair is always an ordeal, so a night like this is the perfect opportunity to indulge in a detox cleansing shampoo or deep conditioning treatment. I really like the ColorProof Detox shampoo (safe for color treated hair) to get rid of build-up. It can be difficult to find though so the Paul Mitchell Clarifying shampoo is a great dupe. I’ve been meaning to try these OUAI Treatment Masques, but I also like the little conditioning Nexxus packets you can find at Target for like $3. Pro tip: pop your conditioner in the microwave for a few seconds before using. Also, my sister swears by plain organic coconut oil. Work it through all your hair (scalp to ends), toss everything into a topknot for a couple hours, then rinse out.
Before hopping in the shower though, enjoy a round of dry brushing. It helps with circulation and it’s good for your lymphatic system – just don’t forget, always brush toward your heart! This knob-handled brush comes in at $8 and this version from Nordstrom with a longer handle comes in at $16. Not into dry brushing? Get your exfoliation on anyway with the classic Fresh Brown Sugar Body Polish or the Laura Mercier Almond Coconut Body Scrub – they both smell divine.
After the shower, it’s time to mask. Sephora makes great affordable treatments – my favorites are the Almond foot mask and the Pearl eye mask. If you’re in market for a full face sheet mask, the SkinCeuticals Biocellulose Restorative Masques are insanely good. At $120 for 6, they’re definitely pricey, but they’ll leave your skin hydrated and simply glowing – it’s crazy. Need wallet-friendly options? You can’t go wrong with the Tony Moly offerings – I love the Aloe mask for moisturizing. If you’re not feeling the mask idea, go for a simple hydrating oil. The Fresh Seaberry Facial oil absorbs immediately and leaves your skin so soft, and I’m also digging the Hyaluronic Acid serum from The Ordinary at the bargain price of $7.
COMFORT + ENTERTAINMENT
Once all your treatments are done, it’s time to break out your best loungewear. My go-to outfit consists of these knit Honeydew joggers (size up), a comfortable lace bralette (no wires here!), and a thin sweatshirt. I love everything by Spiritual Gangster so I’m totally digging this OM Namaste sweatshirt, but this cozy Barefoot Dreams hoodie was made for nights like this. Surprisingly, I’m also kinda of obsessed with this cute lilac sleepwear romper by Asos. And I know they’re boring, but Ugg slippers are still the best around and these have cute pom-poms.
You know what else needs to be cozy? The blankets! Faux fur throws are everything right now and Nordstrom Rack always has a great selection. This Barefoot Dreams throw is on deep discount as well, but if you have room in the budget, this $99 sherpa throw looks like heaven.
The shows that are currently on my “need to watch” list are The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Insecure, and The Crown (I know, I’m late to the party). If I’m going the Kindle route, I’ve got Artemis (by Andy Weir) and The Immortalists (by Chloe Benjamin) in the queue or I’m revisiting the Servants of Fate series (by Sarah Fine).
SNACKS + BEVERAGES
Now that we’re all ready to settle in for the night, this part is easy. Pour yourself a glass of wine (obsessed with this shape from CB) and prep your favorite snack. I always go for the classic pinot noir + cheese, crackers, and fruit pairing (on a classic cheese platter), though popcorn makes a regular appearance as well. On the rare occasion that I’m not in a particularly boozy mood, I’ll do a big mug of chamomile tea with a side of tea cookies. Next step – relax and enjoy the night!
