I’m not quite sure how it happened, but oils have completely taken over my beauty routine. I was sorting through some products the other day and I was legit shocked like “where did these all come from?!”
The truth is, beauty oils are having a moment right now and I don’t hate it. With a renewed focus on natural, powerful ingredients such as squalene, marula, rose hip seed, and grapeseed, it’s no wonder facial and cleansing oils were tagged as a major beauty trend for 2018.
In reality, I shouldn’t have been surprised one bit. I genuinely love how these products can be ultra lightweight while still packing a major hydrating punch. And with winter and super dry air right around the corner, staying moisturized is especially important and oils are so perfect for that! So here are four beauty oils for face, body, and hair that I’m loving right now.
1. Kiehl’s Dry Body Oil Spray
According to Sephora: “A luxurious, lightweight dry oil that mists onto skin to help you achieve supple, velvety-smooth, refined skin texture. Enriched with squalane and grapeseed oil, this spray-on body oil delivers a fine mist that quickly absorbs into skin, residue-free and dry to the touch. It delivers essential hydration softer, suppler skin with a healthy-looking glow—and leaves it traced with a delicate, creamy scent.”
Why I love it:
I’m notorious for running late. I always severely underestimate the amount of time it’s going to take for me to get ready, especially before work in the AM. And when I’m so short on time, any hope of applying body lotion after my shower is totally out the window.
Enter the delightfully luxe and easy-to-use Kiehl’s Dry Body Oil Spray. I can spritz up and down my body, do a few quick swipes to get the oil absorbed and I’m ready to get dressed. Seriously, this has been a game-changer for me as I’ve actually used it almost every day since I bought it. Also, while I do enjoy the scent, it’s pretty faint and doesn’t linger.
The real downside though – it’s not cheap. But I still see it as an investment in being proactive to avoid dry skin in winter!
2. Ouai Rose Hair & Body Oil
According to Sephora: “A multitasking oil for hair and body that’s perfect for those on the go. This luxurious, rose hair and body oil is a silicone-free fusion of nutrient-rich oils from all over the world. It’s fast-absorbing and illuminates the hair and skin as it restores moisture and diminishes the appearance of damage. The fragrance is Melrose Place—a velvety rich rose fragrance with hints of bergamot, lychee, cedarwood, and white musk.”
Why I love it:
With really long, thick hair that’s pretty heavily color-treated, I’m always searching for hydrating products to smooth and protect my hair. And while I do need something stronger for leave-in conditioning or heat protection, the Ouai Rose Hair & Body Oil is the absolute perfect way to finish styling after straightening or blowdrying.
The oil is lightweight but super concentrated so just one pump of product leaves my ends soft and shiny without feeling greasy. The scent (with hints of rose and bergamot that I quite like) is strong right out of the bottle but isn’t overpowering and it does fade after application.
3. Drunk Elephant Virgin Marula Luxury Facial Oil
According to Sephora: “A wonder-working luxury facial oil, high in critical antioxidants, to deeply moisturize, nourish, soothe, and rejuvenate your skin while restoring its youthful glow. This highly absorbable oil delivers clinically proven results to reverse visible signs of aging, as well as incredible antioxidant benefits to combat environmental stressors and free radicals. Look for a noticeable reduction in the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, redness, and blotchiness, with an improvement in skin’s elastic feel.”
Why I love it: I was initially pretty skeptical about my need for a $72 facial oil, but let me tell you why I changed my mind. I bought the Drunk Elephant Marula Facial Oil along with the T.L.C. Framboos (full review coming soon!) as part of the NightBright Duo for my trip to Portugal. I used these two in tandem every night and honestly, my skin has never been so glowy and hydrated on a vacation. Probably because marula oil is known for reducing redness.
I also love using the Marula Oil right out of the shower. I used to favor the Fresh Seaberry Oil for this, but the Marula absorbs so damn quickly, has fewer ingredients, and has Sephora’s Clean seal – always a bonus.
The price is a definite bummer, but as it only takes a few drops to fully cover your face, neck, hands, and chest, the larger bottle will last forever. Still not convinced? The Ordinary 100% Cold Pressed Virgin Marula Oil is a seriously fantastic entry level option at a fraction of the price.
Skincare pro-tip: Apply skincare in order of lightest weight to heaviest. For example, apply oil, then treatment/serum, then cream/moisturizer!
4. Simple Hydrating Cleansing Oil
According to Target: “New Simple Hydrating Cleansing Oil – our finest cleanser for thoroughly clean and touchably soft skin. Made with 100% pure grape-seed oil, our new Hydrating Cleansing Oil is enriched with Vitamin A & E to dissolve impurities and remove makeup, leaving your skin deeply clean and well hydrated. It won’t leave your skin dry or greasy, just completely clean, soft and fresh, making it suitable for even oily skin. It is also hypoallergenic, paraben-free, dermatologist tested and non-comedogenic, which is perfect for all skin types, even sensitive skin.”
Why I love it:
I’m already a huge fan of Simple Skincare because of their highly effective Micellar Cleansing Water, so I was all about trying this new cleansing oil. My usual evening skincare routine starts with the Micellar Water followed by Cetaphil Facial Cleanser, but for late nights, I wanted a one-step cleanser that would gently take everything off.
The Hydrating Cleansing Oil, especially great for sensitive skin, is a solid option for gentle cleansing. I love having this as an option in my beauty cabinet because my skin is surprisingly soft and yes, hydrated after cleansing.
The only caveat to my review here though, is that since I don’t wear eye makeup anymore (hello, lash extensions!), I can only speak to the cleanser removing face and brow makeup.
