Before we get too far into the new year, we wanted to share our absolute favorite things from 2017. This is a collection of new obsessions that we cannot live without and things that will be on repeat for many years to come. Some of these have already garnered cult followings (looking at you, Glossier), some are random finds, and others were complete surprises.
What were your favorite items and must haves from 2017? Comment below. We would love to try them out!
BEX’S TOP PICKS
2017 was the year I really found my go-to-beauty products – Tarte Shape Tape, Becca Highlighter in Opal, Glossier’s Boy Brow, and this wonder Mad Hippie Vitamin C Serum will all never ever leave my makeup arsenal.
When I first wore shape tape I couldn’t believe how much of my under eye circles vanished right before my eyes. I was shooketh! Boy Brow is a duh! I have big eye brows and they need help staying in place. Also, this is the year I said goodbye to Becca’s Champagne Pop and said hello to Opal. If you haven’t read my review on this highlighter you can find it here. It really is magic. Every time I wear it, I get a compliment. I purchased the full size product in June and I have used 3/4 of it as of now.
This was also the year I found my drug store solids. I started using Mad Hippie Vitamin C (find it at Whole Foods, too) because I wanted to find a replacement for Drunk Elephant’s $80 serum and success! This serum made me glow, controlled my acne, faded spots, vanquished acne scars, and my wallet is happy. Another drug store favorite is the Wet n Wild balm stain sticks. The color lasts forever and they wear like a high end lip color.
Last but not least in my beauty finds is the Davines All in One. This spray controls, frizz, keeps your hair shiny, and prevents breakage. It does have a strong baby powder smell, but I actually like it. It was suggested to me by a friend after my hair kept dreading underneath. I also use this on my daughter as a de-tangler and we love it.
For fashion finds, my favorite pair of jeans were the AE boyfriend distressed jeans. They are beyond comfortable and do not sag like a lot of boyfriend jeans. I love to wear these with a white shirt and my blush pink vans (also on this year’s list). This Rebecca Minkoff crossbody is my every day ride-or-die along with these Marc Fisher boots.
I can’t forget my favorite shirt of the year, the Stowe Wrap Tunic from Anthropologie. This top has a flattering fit for all body types, the material is so freaking soft, and the plunging neck line is super sexy. It is perfect for a date or movie night.
MILA’S TOP PICKS
My favorite items from last year are a mix of high-impact beauty products (with a serious emphasis on skincare) and classic wardrobe must haves. Favorite is definitely not an understatement here because I purchased some of these items multiple times last year!
I’ve written a lot about my love for a few of these featured products, including the AERIN Amber Musk fragrance, the Origins Modern Friction Microdermabrasion scrub, and the SkinCeuticals Hyaluronic Acid serum. After multiple rollerball purchases, I finally got a full-size bottle of the Amber Musk. The scent just oozes warmth and coziness – perfect for chillier months. I still use the Origins scrub on a weekly basis because my skin feels incredibly refreshed yet it’s so gentle (full review here) and I’m now obsessed with all things hyaluronic acid thanks to this hydrating SkinCeuticals serum (full review here).
Like Bex, I’m a major devotee of Glossier so the Super Pure face serum and Balm Dotcom also made my list of beauty faves. The Super Pure has niacinamide and zinc, meaning it combats irritation and redness – what you need for a blemish-free complexion. And you already know that Balm Dotcom is like the best lip balm ever. I snagged this in Birthday, Rose, and Cherry – one for home, one for my everyday bag, and one for the office.
The biggest beauty surprise of the year though was the Belif Moisturizing Eye Bomb – the perfect companion to my beloved Aqua Bomb and Moisture Bomb creams. I took a sample of the Eye Bomb on vacation with me over the holidays and I was blown away. It’s super lightweight to the touch (so much in fact that I didn’t think it would work), but is so damn hydrating! Like I don’t even know how it’s possible.
Moving on to fashion faves, I featured this Ralph Lauren Wool Blend Coat on the blog because it’s classic, yet trendy in the camel shade. A great camel coat can be dressed up or down and has endless versatility. Bonus – this coat is on sale! Another classic wardrobe staple? The fabulously chic M.Gemi Cammeo pumps. These beauties are well-made, flattering, and rival even the highest-end designer stilettos. I try to wear these items as much as possible because they make me feel awesome and it doesn’t hurt that I’ve received plenty of compliments on both!
I’m also obsessed with this Calvin Klein Modern Cotton Bralette – don’t laugh. I know it’s a little basic, but this is the most comfortable bralette ever and I might own three already. Seriously, I live in these on the weekends.
Finally, I have to talk about my two favorite cold-weather finds – these Rebecca Minkoff Waterproof Rain Boots and this Patagonia Re-Tool Fleece Pullover. The rain boots are fleece-lined so they’re perfect for when it’s wet and chilly, but the best part is that they just look like normal boots! And the Patagonia fleece is so warm and cozy. It was a Christmas gift from my sister and because of our frigid winter, I’ve been wearing it nonstop.
